Smokey Tofu Jacket Potato

A roast potato stuffed with homemade vegan tofu bacon and topped with yoghurt and chives


  • 220g firm tofu

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp liquid smoke

  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida⁣

  • 2 tsp garlic infused olive oil

  • Extra oil for frying or use air fryer


  1. Drain tofu and pat dry. ⁣

  2. Whisk together the remaining ingredients. ⁣

  3. Thinly slice tofu and dip in marinade to fully coat.⁣

  4. Heat pan with enough oil to submerge tofu slices then carefully slide in pieces (stand clear, it will spit!) and cook for around 5 minutes. (Alternatively, air fry) ⁣

  5. Flip the pieces and cook for another 5 minutes or until crisp, drain on clean towel.
